Most students in the upper elementary grades love to use computers! Although students often know a lot about technology, they frequently lack some basic operational skills. Adding the Snowboard Shop curriculum to your school will benefit students as they develop a richer understanding and use Google Workspace (formerly known as Google G Suite) tools like Docs, Drive, Drawings, Sheets, etc.

The project-based approach of Snowboard Shop allows students to discover and create while learning real-world topics. Most lessons in the course are business centered with a creative flair. Snowboard Shop includes collaborative elements, as students work together toward a common goal of making their shop the best it can be!

Utilizing written instructions matched with guided instructional videos, students will learn intricate features of the applications in a fun and hands-on way. Students will design and construct artifacts and create graphic design components for their shop; these elements are graded by the teacher using paired scoring checklists.

Yeti Academy strives to provide the best possible experience for teachers. Snowboard Shop comes with extensive teacher resources, including example artifacts, teacher summaries, and slide presentations. It is our goal for teachers to have all the resources they need in a convenient and easily accessible location on the interface. The Snowboard Shop module can easily be adjusted for in-classroom, remote, or hybrid learning.

The pacing of the module can be adapted based on the preferences of the classroom or computer teacher and time restraints of the class. Although most assignments are written for individual completion, tasks may also be assigned to teams to facilitate greater student communication and critical thinking.

The Snowboard Shop module is divided into nine concepts, each with varying numbers of lessons. Each lesson includes two student modalities and an engaging video that introduces the material and demonstrates step-by-step instructions for completing the artifacts. These videos can be projected by teachers, or assigned to students to refer back to throughout the completion of their assignments.

Students “create” their own Snowboard Shop as they journey through each concept and lesson. Snowboard Shop lessons include the following student modalities:

ENGAGE: These brief introductions cultivate interest, introduce new ideas, and get students excited about completing the challenge ahead.

EXPLAIN: Step-by-step instructions guide students in using G Suite tools to create original artifacts related to their Snowboard Shop.
